Rheocasting



Rheocasting is a casting process used to produce metal alloys with improved mechanical properties and superior surface finish. This process involves injecting a semi-solid slurry of metal into a mold, which allows for better control over the solidification process and the formation of the final product.
The term "rheocasting" comes from the Greek word "rheology," which refers to the study of the flow of matter. In rheocasting, the metal is first heated until it reaches a semi-solid state, which is a unique material state that exhibits both liquid-like and solid-like behavior. This semi-solid metal is then injected into a mold, where it solidifies into the desired shape.
Rheocasting is commonly used in the production of automotive parts, aerospace components, and medical equipment. It is preferred over traditional casting methods because it produces parts with a finer and more uniform microstructure, which results in improved mechanical properties and surface finish. Additionally, rheocasting reduces the likelihood of defects, such as porosity and shrinkage, that can occur during solidification in traditional casting methods.
